Test batch #13: Orange/Ginger (Zing) #2

Another weekend, another loaf of soap. ;) This week I revisited the orange-ginger blend, now (tentatively?) named Zing. That’s sort of a two-fer: "zing" for the energizing properties of the essential oils involved, and... the genus name of ginger is Zingiber. ;D /dork

Yet another attempt at artsy soap this time around, which was kinda defeated by the fact that the soap batter was starting to solidify too quickly. ^^; Hopefully the effect would be improved with more fluid batter. ;D

Basically, the soap is bicolored, divided down the middle. The darker half has been tinted a bit with some annatto-infused oil, while the lighter half is the natural color once the EOs were added.

That bit in the middle is where the plastic wrap I had over it bowed down and "kissed" it. ~_~ Grr!

Ideally, there should be some back-and-forth swirling across each bar... you can kinda see the stroke marks, but again, I think the soap was too thick to carry across. ;)

I’m hoping to try the basil citrus blend this weekend, and I would color that yellow/light orange and green, so I might try this technique again, with an attempt to keep the soap more fluid as I go. XD; Or I might try a slightly different method of making the actual physical swirl; that would require me to cut the bars a bit differently, but if it looks cool, hey... XD

Ingredients: Olive oil, distilled water, coconut oil, organic sustainable palm oil, sodium hydroxide (lye), castor oil, cocoa butter, orange essential oil, annatto-infused castor oil (for color), ginger essential oil, sugar, Litsea cubeba essential oil, patchouli essential oil.

This batch uses a different soap base and a different ginger oil than the last base; hopefully it’ll be a harder soap. As for the scent, I suppose whether or not it’s better is relative. ;D But the previous ginger I used is no longer available, so. :<

Question:
Do you think this color palette is appropriate for the scent/description? (Regardless of the current swirl!fail...)

Making soap look nice is hard. ;(
